The Buyers Guide For Cosmetic Surgery and Breast Implants
Breast Augmentation, Breast Implants and Plastic Surgery Since the advent of breast augmentation surgery in the 1960s, millions of women have enhanced their bodies with silicone and saline implants.
Believe it or not breast augmentation began as long ago as 1890 using paraffin injections and continued until the Roaring 20's when it was abandoned due to infections and lumps. The 1920s saw a new innovation, the removal of fat from the buttocks and tummy and inserting it into the breasts. This continued for a further 20 years but a combination of the fat being absorbed into the body, leaving a saggy mess and of course the large unsightly scars in visible places didn't make early breast augmentation an attractive option. World War II saw Japanese prostitutes using silicon injections to enlarge their naturally small breasts in an effort to attract the American troops. The swinging 60's came and the famous topless dancers Las Vegas began breast augmentation to add value to their acts.. We've come along way since silicon shots and polyvinyl sponges. Todays implants have improved so much from the days of leaks and hardening, including cancer problems. Further ongoing surgery is no longer necessary under normal circumstances. The modern choice is Saline implants, filled with salt water which is identical to the salt water in our blood stream. If the implants break, there is no danger from the fluid - saline is non-toxic. Saline breast implants are safe and do not increase a woman's risks for any disease. The UK Department of Health policies on fitting breast implants is based on the principle of evidence based medicine and, where appropriate, reflects conclusions drawn by groups of independent experts. Currently only breast implants filled with silicone gel or saline are available for use in the UK. Information for women
